The art and science of a smile

Hollywood smiles and reality makeovers are probably the first things that jump to mind at the mention of aesthetic dentistry. They certainly fit the description, but don't quite provide the full picture.

At HBDS, we do more than give you a great smile. We merge art and science to optimally improve the appearance, function and health of your teeth, incorporating aesthetic dentistry as a complete solution in dental care.

Thanks to advancements in modern cosmetic dental care, you can have a beautiful smile more easily than ever before. It is important to be aware that dental perfection requires a systematic approach. This includes diagnosis, communication, treatment planning, execution and case maintenance.

Aesthetic or cosmetic dentistry is about creating balance and symmetry. It is about manipulating colour and contours to produce seamless harmony with the adjacent teeth, the gums, lips and face. This could involve procedures such as whitening, bonding, veneers, implants or orthodontics. Alternatively it could be as simple as covering chips and worn enamel, and replacing an old mercury filling with a more natural looking white one.

Digital design

At HBDS we have what it takes to plan and build your perfect smile. Using effective diagnostic tools such as Digital Smile Design, we can help you choose the right treatment to create your winning smile.

The next few pages will give you a glimpse into the incredible world of aesthetic dentistry and illustrate how our qualified team of dental professionals can help you to achieve the smile of your dreams.

Teeth whitening

Just as it is easy to be dazzled by a bright smile, it is also natural to be repelled by a dull or dirty one. It might sound obvious, but strangely enough one of the most common causes of an unattractive smile is stained teeth.

Direct bonding

Bonding, or direct bonding, forms the basis of all minimally invasive dental treatments. It is mostly used as an inexpensive and effective restoration treatment for teeth that are chipped, cracked, discoloured or badly aligned.

With the advancement of materials and techniques, direct bonding has also become the treatment of choice for early erosion and even closing gaps between multiple teeth.

Dental veneers

There's no reason to put up with a crooked smile when dental veneers can easily transform it into a bright, white set of beautifully aligned teeth. Veneers are custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material that bond directly to the front and top surfaces of the teeth. They can cover severe cases of worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment, gaps, chips and cracks. Veneers are thinner than full crowns and therefore require little or no tooth reshaping when bonded onto the tooth.

Snip and trim: Gum contouring

When we feel unhappy about our smile, we usually assume it’s because our teeth are chipped or crooked or stained. However, sometimes it's not our teeth that are the problem.
